Gotcha Day the extended edition!

Brianna told me that I need to update everyone on "Gotcha Day" in words this time instead of just pictures.  Of course, some cute pictures will follow!

We arrived at the Atlanta airport about 2 hours before Caleb's flight was scheduled to arrive.  We wanted to ask for a gate pass so we could be there the minute the second he got off the airplane.  Gary went and asked if that would be possible and they told him we could only get 1 gate pass.  He pleaded asked nicely if they would at least let both parents be at the gate.  Believe or not, they actually said yes!  Our Georgia family had met us at the airport so they went and fed the gang while Gary and I headed to the gate.  We got to his gate about 1:30.  The flight was expected to arrive at 2:18.  At about 1:50, I asked Gary to go take a picture of the arrival screen that had his flight on it.  Soon after he left, they came and opened the gate like they do when a plane is getting ready to arrive.  Gary hurried back and said the screen said the plane had arrived!  What??  I can't begin to explain the thoughts and feelings that start running through your head when you know you are going to meet your child for the first time.  Anyway back to the story, we got up and moved so we could have a good view of the people exiting the plane.  We didn't have to wait long!  Caleb and his escort were about the 3rd people off of the plane.  Oh boy, here come the tears!  The escort just about walked right by us as we are trying to tell her that she had our son!  She wasn't expecting to see us at the gate so we caught her off guard.  She kept walking so we jumped in next to her trying to take in everything we could about our son.  He looked very tired, like he had just woken up.  She carried him to the baggage claim area talking to us the whole way there.  You know it took all the restraint we had not to just scoop him up right out of her arms!  Gary called the rest of the family and let them know where we were.  Moments later they all came running with signs, hugs and tears!  We still hadn't gotten our hands on him yet!  The escort needed help finding some checked luggage from the night before so Gary headed off with her to work on that.  Before she left she put Caleb down and talked to him gently and pointed out his brothers and his sisters.  She then wisely left and let us have our moment.  Caleb started crying and I couldn't take it any longer so I bent down and swooped him up into my arms.  He settled down quickly and soon all of the siblings wanted to hold him.  It didn't take long for him to start playing with the kids.  My sister-in-law, Teresa, brought some small cars for him so we gave them to him to play with.  They were a big hit as they rolled them across the floor and chased after them.  By the time, the escort came back Caleb was happily playing with his siblings.  She told us that it made her so happy to see him doing so well.  Since Daddy had spent so much time helping the escort he hadn't had any time to hold Caleb.  As you can see by the photo below that the meeting went very well!  We spent about 2 hours just getting to know each other right by the baggage claim area.  It wasn't at all how I imagined the day would go but really it couldn't have been more perfect.  Even met a nice lady who watched our sweet meeting of our boy and she cried tears of joy right along with us!

Now for those who want to know how Caleb is doing.  He didn't sleep very well last night, very restless and irritable.  We had some sweet snuggle time but Mommy didn't get much sleep.  I have the rest of my life to sleep so I don't mind middle of the night snuggling!  He is sleeping right now in Brianna's arms.  He slept for about 2 hours in his bed and then woke up.  We may try his bed again here in a little bit.  He hardly eats anything!  We have been keeping a bowl of cheerios out for him to eat whenever he wants.  He likes watermelon, cantelope, drinkable yogurt, dried seaweed, and chicken.  He just doesn't eat much!  He is tiny.  Most of the clothes we have gotten are too big.  We had gotten 2T and 3T but I think he is more in 12-18 months sizes.  He is 2 1/2 but looks more like a 1 1/2 year old!  The foster family was still giving him a bottle.  We have decreased the amount that he gets by bottle but we don't think now is the time to take it away.  His world has been rocked now isn't the time to take away the bottle too.  He loves, loves, loves the boys!  He follows them around the house all day!  They of course, love it!  He has the cutest, softest little voice.  He likes to repeat some of the things he hears us saying.  Last night, we were SKYPEing with Grandpa and he said Grandpa!  I will close now with some more sweet pictures

Caleb is doing amazingly well.  He has bonded with the boys for sure.  Bedtime should be interesting.  We may have to have a slumber party in the living room!

Oh, and he is tiny.  The 3T pants I brought for him were falling off!  He only weighs about 22 pounds!

Thanks for sharing in our joy and for praying for us!  We love you all!

False Labor

Well, today has not turned out the way we were expecting.  We went to Atlanta as planned and had just finished taking the kids to the Coca-Cola museum when our phone rang.  It was our agency calling to let us know there had been some flight delays and we wouldn't be getting Caleb today after all.  So we decided to head back home (with some very disappointed children and parents in the car) and go back to Atlanta in the morning.  He is scheduled to arrive at 2:30 tomorrow afternoon.  Why should Caleb's arrival be any different than my birth children?  I recall going to the hospital 3 times in "labor" with one of my children only to be sent home and told it was false labor.  So, this must be my false labor with Caleb!  However, I'm not leaving Atlanta tomorrow without my son!  I also hope I don't need an epidural before this is all over with!  Love you all and thanks for praying us through this!

I am ready to have this child!!

Making our list and checking it twice!

Has this been the looongest weekend ever?  It has felt that way to us for some strange reason!  Maybe because we just can't wait for it to be Monday and for us to be heading to the airport!  It has been very productive though and we have crossed things off of our to-do list.  Here is a look at our list:

1.  Gary comes home from Afr!ca!  Check

The kids made this to welcome Gary home!
It is so hard to stay awake waiting for Daddy to get home!
He didn't get home until 12:30am but with her nap she was ready to go!
We he did get home she ran around the living room screaming and then she ran to the door and was jumping up and down and was clapping.  The minute the door was open she ran out to him and wrapped her arms around his legs.  So sweet!  I guess she missed her Daddy!
2.  Surprise Gary with the news of Caleb arriving!  Check
We really did surprise him with the news.  We made him cover his eyes and then we put him in front of the sign the kids made.  We could tell the minute the information that he was reading sunk in.  His expression turned to shock!  It was priceless.  Brianna captured some of it on video!
3.  Get haircuts so we are photo ready for the big day!  Check

4.  Go shopping for "gotcha day" airport items.  Check
We went to T*rget and found a few items for the airport when we first meet Caleb.  We got a trusty mini magna doodle.  Claire loved hers and it was a huge icebreaker.  We found a cell phone where we could record messages that play on the phone.  We also found a truck.  I think all little boys like trucks!
5.  Meet friends for lunch on Saturday.  Check

These sweet friends are just starting the adoption process.  We are so excited for them!
6.  Learn a few basic K*rean phrases and words from friends.  Check
Brianna recorded some of the ones we thought we would really need on her phone.  Our friends also gave us a CD of K*rean that we can listen to on our way to the airport.
7.  Go shopping again, this time to a K*rean market looking for food that may be familiar to Caleb.  Check
We found some dried seaweed, which we know he likes (Claire too), some crackers, and some rice porridge.
8.  Go to church and thank God for the blessing of children.  Check
9.  Blog and remind my friends that tomorrow is the big day!  Check

Thankful Thursday

This thankful Thursday I am thankful for:

~The visit I had with my friend, Alycia and her daughter Sophie!  Alycia and I knew each other in San Antonio and now we have both moved away.  Last Saturday, she was driving through my neck of the woods so we met for breakfast.  Thanks Alycia for the adult conversation!  Gary had been gone for a week and I was longing needing some adult conversation.

~For the blog book that came in the mail!  I finally got our first blog, which was mainly our journey to Claire, printed into a hard-back book.  Wow, what great memories that book holds.

~That my husband is on his last plane ride home!  We will see him tonight!  I have missed that man!  Yippee Jesus he is coming home!

~For the surprise that awaits my husband when he gets home!  Gary has been in Afr!ca these past 2 weeks and we have had very little contact with each other.  He doesn't even know the sweet news of Caleb coming home!  What a homecoming surprise for him!

~Last but not least, I am thankful for this....

What are you thankful for?

Prayer requests for Caleb

I have so many thoughts and emotions flowing through my head right now.  Yesterday, we were all on cloud 9 all day!  I don't think my feet ever touched the ground.  Amazingly, I was able to sleep last night until about 5:00 this morning and then my mind started up again thinking about Caleb.  I used that time to pray for him.  We are over the moon excited and we love him so much already but he is about to be taken from the only family he has known and travel to a foreign country to meet people he doesn't know who don't look like him or speak his language.  Scary for anyone let alone a 2 year old!  Can I ask you all to pray for Caleb?  Here are some specific requests.

~Pray for his heart to be ready to join our family.
~Pray for him not to be scared.
~Pray that he stays healthy.  He has been hospitalized several times since we have been matched with him.
~Pray for his foster family.  While we celebrate his arrival, they have to say goodbye to the child they have cared for since birth.
~Pray for the escort bringing Caleb to the United States.  What a wonderful gift she is providing for us.
~Pray for Claire.  I don't want her to think she is being replaced!  She is excited too but does she really understand that he is coming to stay forever!  She keeps signing and jabbering excitedly!  She keeps signing "CJ home" "CJ home" and then she signs "airplane".  So sweet!
~Pray that Gary arrives home as scheduled!  He is currently out of the country and doesn't even know our exciting news yet!  He is set to arrive home late Thursday night.

Thanks sweet friends for listening to my heart and praying for us!

Did you hear the screaming from the East??

Our boy is coming home!!!  My phone rang this morning and I saw that it was from Oregon (where our agency is) and I thought "oh my goodness, this could be the call!"  I was not disappointed.  Our agency was calling to tell us that our son is coming home and they had his flight information.  He is set to arrive late Monday, March 29.  When I say late I mean around midnight late!  We are so excited, it doesn't matter what time he arrives the fact is in 1 week I will be holding my boy.  All I can say is, Yippee Jesus, Caleb is coming home!
Oh how I love this little face!

Caleb update

I have had a lot of questions on where things stand with Caleb.  Well, I wish that I had some news but I really don't.  We do know that his visa has been applied for.  K*rea seems to think that he should be ready to travel next week but our agency thinks that it will be the last week of March.  I am waiting patiently ready for him to be here and I really want him home for Easter.  This year Easter falls on my birthday.  I can't think of a better birthday present than to be with ALL of my kids!  Pray that he comes home soon.  Thanks!
