Adoption is Final!

This morning we didn't have to leave the hotel until 8:45 so it was nice to not have to rush in the morning. It was nice too because we could take the time to Skype with the kids at home. This was the first time they had seen Caelyn with us!
We all slept well. Caelyn slept all night. Gary and I both woke up during the night and laid awake for awhile; darn jet lag! I find the time I am awake during the night makes a great time to talk to my heavenly Father. Caelyn woke up still very quiet and did not eat much for breakfast. After breakfast, we went to the civil affairs office to register our adoption. The official questioned us about why we wanted to adopt. I guess we passed because the adoption is final on the Chinese side! Caelyn remained quiet during all of this but continued to smile. When we got back to the room she completely opened up. We started playing UNO and she started talking and laughing and it has continued since! She likes to pick on Daddy and he can really get her giggling! We went to a restaurant right next to the hotel for lunch. Caelyn ate and ate. She loves dumplings, broccoli, cucumber and prawns! After lunch, we went to the supermarket for snacks and water for our hotel room. It is much colder today. The wind is blowing and the cold goes right through you!
Tomorrow we are touring the Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square. This will be Caelyn's first time there. We will try to take alot of pictures!
We are enjoying getting to know our daughter; she is going to fit right in with our crazy gang!

Caelyn's hand print is her saying she wants to be adopted!

Gotcha Day!!

Well today was an exciting day! Sue, from Holt, met us at 8:15am to head to the Fengtai orphanage. Fengtai is a district within Beijing. God blessed us with just a beautiful day, not too cold, sunny, little smog, and even the traffic was light. Sue kept commenting how unusual today was for weather and traffic. Of course!! We got to the orphanage early, took some pictures of the facility, and got all the paperwork completed. Around 9:30am, in walked our beautiful Caelyn with her foster parents Dean and Megan and their two children Mia and Oliver. Caelyn walked quietly up to us and let us give her some small hugs. All these people were taking pictures and surrounding us. I think Caelyn was just a little overwhelmed. We got to meet and hug in person Dean and Megan and also got to meet another special person in Caelyn's life--Miss Teresa. Miss Teresa has been Caelyn's advocate within the orphanage for a couple years and really pushing to find her a forever family. Miss Teresa has been a volunteer at the orphanage for over 20 years and is kind of the matriarch of the orphanage. Caelyn showed us a painting she made for us, we took more pictures, then we headed down to visit the classroom area Caelyn grew up in. For about another hour, we got to meet some of Caelyn's friends and played with the babies and other children. Caelyn helped feed a baby. While in the classroom area, we got to meet Miss Kim, another special person and advocate in Caelyn's life. In fact, we go to Miss Kim's house on Sunday for dinner. What a great time it was playing with the other children.
We left the orphanage around 10:30am. Dean, Megan and family came back with us to the hotel so we all could have lunch together. It is quite clear, Mia and Caelyn are great friends. Mia road with us. Caelyn and Mia giggled, talked, and ate snacks on the entire trip back to the hotel. After getting back to the hotel, we headed for a walk to find some lunch. We ate lunch at a restaurant well known for its Peking Duck. It was the first time Robin and I had eaten Peking Duck. It was very good and I highly recommend it. We got to know Dean, Megan , and kids even more. A very neat family and we feel blessed that God brought them into Caelyn's and our lives.
After lunch and a walk back to the hotel, Dean, Megan and kids headed back to their home. It was very hard for Caelyn to see them go. After a few tears and shutting down for a few minutes, she started opening up again. Caelyn said she wanted to go swimming, so we did. That helped. Now, she and Robin are playing Uno. Caelyn beat Robin in the first game. She's going to fit in just fine with this family...she's a card player. Caelyn is still very quiet and guarded, but that is expected. A lot in her young life just changed today.
As I close today, I want to share with you some of the thoughts I had on the plane yesterday. I just kept feeling overwhelmed and humbled that our great God had made all this possible. Before God had changed our hearts towards adoption, he had picked out Caelyn for us. He protected her, brought people like Miss Teresa and Miss Kim into her life and then orchestrated her move to a foster family that deeply loved and cared for her and allowed her to attend an international school where she expanded her English speech and understanding. In His perfect timing, He brought us here to Beijing, China on November 29, 2012. Caelyn is now part of our family. We are forever greatful to Him for his goodness and look forward to introducing Caelyn to her heavenly Father.

From China!!!

We made it to Beijing! The flight went very smooth. Thank you for praying us here. Today is the day that we meet Caelyn! We talked to her last night on the phone and she was very excited. Our internet in our hotel is giving us nothing but problems so sorry for the lack of updates. We will try to get an update about how gotcha day goes. God is good!

Please pray for Hunter. He is the latest victim at home with strep. Praying he is the last.

(This was an Email my mom sent and wanted me to share it for her.  As of now, Caelyn should already be in their arms!! YAY!!! -Brianna)

5 more sleeps!!!

I can't believe that we are finally to the end stages of our adoption!  5 more sleeps and we will see her face to face and can hug her sweet little self!  We are trying hard to get everything on our to do list done and get our suitcases packed!  Check out the email we awoke to this morning:

Hi Robin and Gary,
We are busy getting ready to meet you. Today we visited the hotel and had lunch. They let us look at a room to see what it looked like and where you would sleep. Caelyn seemed to enjoy this. Then we took Caelyn to the dentist and had her teeth cleaned. We also found out she has 3 cavities! Caelyn seems very settled and is talking a lot about you, and her leaving Beijing.

Mia and Oliver are sick at the moment, but so far, fingers crossed, Caelyn has been immune to the cold germs going around. We will do out best to keep her this way.
5 sleeps to go!

See you soon,
Megan

Our next post will most likely be from China!  Cannot wait!
